I am Danish, and came to England in 1984. l lived in London, then in Manchester, where my husband was the Bursar of an independent school with large playing fields. So when we decided to move to Scotland, and thought about taking up the game of golf, I started practicing on the school playing fields, and I liked it.
On moving to Scotland in 1990, I joined my first golf club, which was only 10 minutes walk from our front door, I was asked at that club to be the Ladies Secretary, after just a couple of years. Properly not the best thing I agreed to. Not easy to write in another language!
I then moved to another club just 10 minutes drive away. I have always been interested in the Handicapping Systems of the game of golf. I ended up being the Ladies Handicap Secretary at that golf club, just as technology came along, it was all very exciting.
After 24 years in Scotland my husband and I came to Bosham - better weather down
here! I joined Chichester Golf Club in August 2014 and was made very welcome . I must have mentioned that I had been Handicap Secretary in another club, as after being a member for a few years, I was asked if I would like to help the Handicap Secretary, and the rest is history.
I am looking forward to being Lady Captain of Chichester Golf Club Ladies Section. My chosen charity is the Sussex Snowdrop Trust which provide Nursing Care at Home for local children who have a life-threatening illness.
I wish you all a year of happy golfing.
Heddie Straw
Lady Captain 2024/25
HUNSTON BELLES is run by the Ladies' Section of Chichester Golf club, to provide information with regard to golf competitions & social events that the section organise or compete in. Information is also provided to help members with the rules of golf, the rules of particular competitions and handicapping.
The website started in 1998 as a way of letting the Saturday ladies know the timesheet for the following Saturday. It expanded from there to cover a lot more, especially when the website became Hunston Belles in 2017.
If you have any news, reports for the website please send to the Editor, Caroline via hunstonbelles@gmail.com
